Discover Kurashiki in Okayama: Two E-Bikes for the Perfect City Adventure

Just a 10-minute walk from Kurashiki Station and only 3 minutes from the heart of the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter,
TAKAHASHIGAWA TRAVEL offers rental bicycles.

Whether you’re exploring the Bikan Historical Quarter,
heading out to a riverside park a little further away,
visiting the birthplace of Japan’s denim industry,
or even challenging yourself with a ride all the way to the Seto Ohashi Bridge—
many travelers rent our bikes for their own unique adventures.

Now, our popular rental service has become even better—
we’ve added two types of electric bicycles to the lineup!

① Real Stream Mini
A stylish and easy-to-ride e-bike, perfect even for those who aren’t used to cycling.
Recommended for medium distances that feel a little too far to walk.

② Velo-Star
A sporty type e-bike that makes even long distances easy and comfortable.
Perfect for reaching spots like Washuzan or Kojima’s famous Denim Street.

Why not venture beyond the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter and discover your own favorite spots?

But if you’re wondering, “What else is there outside the Bikan area?”
here are a few cycling spots recommended by our staff.

■ Sakazu (about 2.7 km from the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter)
This area is home to a park themed around water and cherry blossoms, where you can enjoy breathtaking blooms in spring.
In summer, the waterways within the park and the nearby river create a refreshing atmosphere, perfect for cooling off or even splashing in the water.
There are also two popular bakeries nearby: one offering soft, fluffy Japanese-style bread, and another selling hearty, crusty European-style bread. Grab some from either shop and enjoy a relaxing picnic in the park or along the water—perfect for a sunny day.

■ Obie / Awara (about 3.3 km from the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter)
This area is home to Awara Kannon Temple, cherished for over 1,200 years as a place of protection for women and the safe growth of children.
Nearby, there’s a bakery specializing in authentic, hearty European-style bread made with carefully selected ingredients, and a café serving delicious coffee.
Reaching the temple and bakery involves climbing a fairly steep hill, but with an electric bike, it’s a breeze. (Our staff has personally tested it!)

■ Washuzan (about 22 km from the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter)
The Washuzan Observation Deck is a bit of a challenging climb, but with an electric bike, the ride is much easier—and the stunning views of the Seto Ohashi Bridge and the Seto Inland Sea are well worth it.
The observation deck’s restaurant has recently been renovated and serves delicious food.
You’ll also find a unique bookstore and souvenir shops offering local specialties from Okayama—perfect for a break or a memorable memento.

Kurashiki has so much more to offer beyond the Bikan Historical Quarter—delicious restaurants, sites and ruins from battles between rival samurai clans in 12th-century Japan, shrines connected to historic swords, and many other fascinating places.

If you haven’t decided where to go, feel free to ask our staff for advice.
We’ll be happy to introduce recommended spots. Our staff personally visits these places, so we can share insider tips and information you won’t find in guidebooks. Don’t hesitate to ask!
